Luxardo Maraschino
Luxardo Maraschino was established in 1821 by Girolamo Luxardo, in Zara, Austria-Hungary. Luxardo’s original intent was to produce Rosolio Maraschino, a medieval liqueur produced predominantly in regional convents. After 8 years of research and refinement, Luxardo received an exclusive “Privilege” from the Emporor of Austria, citing the superior quality of his product. (This is still indicated by the phrase “Privilegiata Fabrica Maraschino Excelsior” prominently displayed on the label.) At the end of the First World War (1918) Zara was incorporated into the Kingdom of Italy, since 85% of its population were Italian. Production was moved to Torreglia (outside Padua) in 1947 due to the aftermath of the Second World War.
The visually iconic straw wrapped around the base of the bottle was implemented to prevent damage during shipping during the early years of the company.

This amaro will pair well with fruit, namely strawberries, pineapples, oranges, limes, etc., as well as with ice cream.
