Infusions

The majesty of a well-made cocktails lies in the delicate balance of flavors, appearance, and experience. One major avenue to creating unique and exciting cocktails is using infusion to enhance the flavors of liqueurs and spirits.

Liqueurs and spirits of all proofs can be paired with a number of ingredients to enhance subtle flavor notes, or alter the character of the drink entirely. Infusing agents can be fruits, nuts, herbs, charcoals, etc. Really, the sky’s the limit as long as the medium will absorb the infusion. Note: the shelf-life of infused spirits can vary according to a number of factors, including the amount and type of sugars in the drink, the proof of the alcohol, the acids of the other ingredients. When you make an infusion, it is always best to use it as quickly as you can.

Shown here is an example of an apple-infused bourbon, also adding clove and cinnamon as complementing flavors. You will see that the effort required by infusing is minimal, while the horizon of what you can do has virtually no limits.
