Domaine de Canton

Domaine de Canton is a French ginger liqueur, produced in France’s Cognac region.  This liqueur was inspired by the ginger liqueur made for centuries in Indochina. The contemporary Domaine de Canton was developed by John Cooper, who was inspired by the ginger-infused elixirs he had tasted while living in Vietnam during the 1980s.  The modern recipe for Domaine de Canton was introduced in 2007.

The primary flavor in Domaine de Canton is fresh baby Vietnamese ginger, but it also contains other botanicals, honey, ginseng, and Cognac to round out its flavor profile. The result is a sweet and spicy liqueur.  The liqueur boasts a smooth texture with a complex flavor profile. The sweet and spicy ginger taste is complemented by subtle hints of vanilla, honey, and rose.

Domaine de Canton can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, but it’s also frequently used in cocktails to add a spicy-sweet kick. It pairs particularly well with bourbon, rum, and other dark spirits, but its versatility means it can be used in a wide range of drinks.  It’s often recognized by its unique bamboo-shaped bottle, reflecting its ginger roots (both figuratively and literally).

The liqueur has gained a reputation for its high quality and has become a favorite for bartenders and mixologists around the world.
