Frangelico

Frangelico is an Italian hazelnut-flavored liqueur that is made from a blend of toasted hazelnuts, cocoa, vanilla, and other natural flavors.  After infusion of the ingredients in alcohol and distillation, the resulting liquid is then sweetened with sugar and blended with water to create a smooth, velvety liqueur.  The final product is then laid in vats for 6-8 weeks to allow the flavors to “marry” and mellow.  The appearance of Frangelico is a clear, pale gold, and the liqueur carries distinct aromas of hazelnuts.

According to legend, the liqueur was first produced in the Piedmont region of Italy in the 18th century by monks, and it is reportedly named after a hermit named Fra Angelico, who lived in the same Piedmont hill country during that time and was renowned for creating unique recipes for liqueurs.  The shape of the bottle itself resembles a Franciscan friar.   Today, Frangelico is owned by the Italian spirits company Gruppo Campari, and it is produced in Canale, Italy.
