Tuaca

Tuaca is an Italian liqueur, blended from brandy, citrus, and vanilla spice.  According to urban legend, this elixir was first blended by Lorenzo de Medici (“Il Magnifico” or “The Magnificent”) in the 1400’s.  The brandy used to make this liqueur is from Anagni, just outside of Rome, known for producing the finest wine grapes in Italy.  The recipe for Tuaca was recreated in the 1930’s by Gaetano Tuoni and Giorgio Canepa, who named the drink as a combination of their last names (“Tuoca,” later renamed to “Tuaca” in the 1960’s to make pronunciation easier in English.)  Tuaca was discovered by American servicemen during World War II, but could not find it available in the United States until the late 1950’s.
